Services - Irrigation Farming PDF Print

SESEDO organisation is looking for partners all over the world to share ideas and to work together in implementation of various projects in environmental management and sustainable irrigation farming as a way of solving the basic challenges of agricultural sector in Tanzania:

  1. Agriculture is the backbone of the economy: 80% of the population live in the rural areas and depend on subsistence agriculture, which accounts for roughly 40% of the GDP
  2. Underutilisation of arable and suitable land for irrigation farming: About 29.4 million ha are suitable for irrigation farming, but only 0.3 million ha or about 1% out of this area is currently utilised for irrigation farming due to lack of finance and irrigation infrastructure, in particular affordable water pumps.
  3. Global challenges such as climate change, water scarcity and poverty

The aim of our agricultural projects is to tackle the serious problem of persistent drought and unsustainable farming systems along the southeastern shores of Lake Victoria. This project will solve the problem of lack of irrigation infrastructure by developing low cost renewable energy based water pumping systems.

The development, production, testing and optimization of low cost wind turbine based water pumping systems and solar water pumps will help SESEDO to fulfill its goal in agricultural development, which is also supported by the government under its new initiative, named KILIMO KWANZA (Agriculture First). Through agricultural projects we also hope to reinforce our  fight against the degradation of the natural environment in an attempt to build resillience to climate variability and climate change to the people in Tanzania.

SESEDO intention is to  utilize the low cost windmill water pumps and solar water pumps to:

  • replace the current fuel water pumps so as to save water, fuel and Co2 emissions
  • improve farmers' food security and at the same time introduce effective use of water
  • increase farmers' production by efficient irrigation methods
  • create Employments or Income Generating Activities through Irrigation farming

NB: Whenever commercial terms and conditions are involved, these services with the same expertise would be offered to public and corporate clients around the world through a private company, AMACO - Marketing & Consulting, www.amaco.co.tz.
